Night School Classes

Reading: Learn basic decoding skills, word recognition, reading fluency, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension.

Advanced Reading: Focus on reading strategies for understanding literature, textbooks, and technical reading. Emphasis on critical thinking and analyzing text.

Phonics/Spelling: Listen to the sounds of individual letters and letter combinations, learn how to read and spell syllables, divide words into syllables, and distinguish spelling patterns.

Writing: Study grammar, capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure, and paragraph development.

Advanced Writing: Build writing skills with a focus on upgrading career skills, technical writing, preparing resumes, and college writing.

Math: Develop basic computational skills, with emphasis on understanding math concepts, problem solving, and applications.

Advanced Math: Succeed in high school or college math courses by choosing an area/s to focus on: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, or statistics.

Keyboarding: Gain basic computer skills including typing techniques and keyboard instruction.

Computer Skills: Develop your computer literacy skills in word processing, database, programming, spreadsheets, business writing, and Internet use.

Study Skills: Focus on reading, researching, note-taking, outlining, writing, test-taking, time management, and memory strategies.

Guided College Study: Meet coursework requirements through the application of study skills. Student must be enrolled in a college or vocational class.

Test Preparation: Study test-taking strategies and practice taking tests to prepare for the GED, EDP, SAT, GRE, and CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).

Health Literacy: Obtain health information and acquire the skills needed to make appropriate health decisions. Class topics include:

  • first aid techniques and emergency resources
  • good nutrition and food choices to prevent disease
  • symptoms of major illnesses or diseases and ways to prevent them

Academic Coaching: Designed to address the needs that individuals may face when transitioning, such as adjusting to college, meeting the increasing demands of a new job, or demonstrating the skills necessary for promotion or academic success.”
