Psychological Services

The Lab School of Washington Psychological Services Department provides evaluation and psychotherapy services for children, adolescents, and adults in the community at large. We specialize in learning disabilities and such related problems as ADHD, depression and anxiety.

Our staff of licensed psychologists and clinical social workers offers comprehensive diagnostic evaluation services as well as treatment, including individual, family and group psychotherapy.

Our consultative services are available to local public and private schools. We also offer professional consultation to members of the mental health and other related helping professions.

The following behaviors may signal the need for evaluation and perhaps treatment:

  • poor performance at school or at work
  • difficulty generalizing what is learned
  • weak organizational skills
  • difficulty paying attention or concentrating
  • susceptibility to easy distraction
  • memory problems
  • failure to complete tasks on a regular basis
  • low frustration tolerance
  • difficulty orienting in time or space
  • problems adjusting to changes in routine
  • confusion from too much verbal or visual stimulation
  • inflexibility in learning or work strategies
  • inability to visualize things mentally
  • inconsistency in recalling sequences of instructions or problem-solving steps
  • dependence on numerous cues or aids in performing routine tasks
  • poor concept of self as a learner or employee
  • problems with peer relations and social skills
  • oppositional and/or aggressive behavior
  • emotional distress and signs of depression
