Middle School
Students learn to apply their academic skills, embrace a higher level of independence, and engage in arts-centered, project-based learning in all subjects.
“At The Lab School, you are no longer that kid — the one who struggles to read, or who has issues with spelling. In many ways, you’re like everyone else. You can succeed at Lab. Believing in yourself — that you have the ability to go beyond what others expect of you — is the most important factor of success. Lab helped me do this, and it has changed my life.”
— Lab School Student
Geared towards students in grades 5-8, the Middle School program focuses on developing skills, knowledge, independence, and self-advocacy. The academic curriculum continues to provide opportunities for hands-on, project-based learning, while students are supported in tackling increasingly rigorous content. Classes are always differentiated to support individual student needs, and opportunities for intensive remediation continue. Increased choice is a crucial part of the program, with students selecting arts and STEM courses, clubs, and extracurricular activities.
