Bingo Joins Distance Learning Classes

Bingo, Lab’s classroom facility dog, and her handler, Karin Hemphill, miss being in the classroom with students and teachers as much as students and teachers miss seeing them at school! But like everyone else, Ms. Hemphill and Bingo have made distance learning work.

Bingo has her own Zoom set-up area so she and Ms. Hemphill can join in classes as they did recently in Elementary Teachers’ Crystal Bobo and Amanda Palmer’s class. During the class, Bingo and Ms. Hemphill shared a joyful greeting with students and teachers. Ms. Hemphill led a discussion on how Bingo is adapting to distance teaching, lack of school routine, and social distancing. Bingo feels it is “ruff" since she can't play with dog friends but is relieved that she doesn’t have to sniff grass through a mask.

Recently, Ms. Hemphill sent each Lab Elementary student a Tail Wags & Book Bags bookmark with a note letting them know much she and Bingo miss them. She also made car magnets for socially distanced drive-by visits to the homes of local students.

We hope we are all together again soon on campus!
