Lab Community Members Testify on Dyslexia
On Tuesday, October 22, Chairman Phil Mendelson and Councilmember David Grosso held a joint public hearing of the Committee of the Whole and the Committee on Education on several pieces of legislation, one of which was “Dyslexia and Other Reading Disabilities Screening and Prevention Pilot Program Act of 2019.”
Several members of The Lab School community gave testimonies at the hearing including Head of School Katherine Schantz, Director of Speech, Language, and Literacy Melissa Wood, Lab Board of Trustees Member and former Director, Developmental Cognitive Neurology Kennedy Krieger Institute and Professor of Neurology, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Martha Bridge Denkla, MD, Lab parent Gretchen Peters, and Lab student Yulisa Hoffman ’26.
