Lab Honoree Malcolm Goodridge Passes Away at 89
The Lab School is deeply saddened by the loss of one of its earliest awardees.
Malcolm Goodridge died peacefully at his home in Beaufort County, South Carolina on March 29th. He was a longtime advocate for students with learning differences having lived with dyslexia himself. He had a successful corporate career and in 1988 was honored as one of The Lab School's "Outstanding Achievers with Learning Differences" alongside Magic Johnson, Thomas H. Kean, Emily Fisher Landau, and Daniel Stern. Though his dyslexia prevented him from ever completing high school, he spent two years serving with the 101st Airborne Division and then attended Hobart College, managing to successfully graduate in 1961.
He found great success in his career and spent 25-plus years as a senior executive for American Express Company. He was a consistent supporter of children with learning differences, donating over the years to The Lab School and establishing a foundation that raised almost $1,000,000 for students in Beaufort County Schools. He is survived by his four children, Katherine, Charles, Tyson, and David, and 7 grandchildren.
