The Laws of Motion
Newton's Second Law: force is equal to mass times acceleration.
Inside and outside, Mr. Coogen's 8th grade Science classes have been working on a Physics unit applying Newton's laws of motion, and experimenting with the aerodynamics of rocket design.
Students designed and built air-and-water-pressured rockets and measured the altitude using homemade inclinometers. Students were then introduced to trigonometric functions and ratios to calculate the height of their rockets.
Using sugar and baking soda, the scientists also created a dehydration reaction and observed the transfer of energy within exothermic and endothermic reactions.
