At our Foxhall campus, scientists recently wrapped up a super fun week of Winter Olympics STEM challenges! Beginning with a history of the Winter Olympics and opening ceremonies (including a lighting of the torch!), Olympics themed challenges including curling, ski jumping, and a four gummy bear bobsled pushed these scientists to think about gravity, friction, weight distribution, as well as other science concepts. It was a great week of learning how to build, test, observe, and re-test. Scientists had to win (and lose) gracefully, persevere, and practice growth mindset concepts (turning: "I can't do this" into: "I will get it next time!")
The week ended with closing ceremonies, the extinguishing of the torch, and all scientists receiving red participation medals and the satisfaction of a job well done.
